Transderma A is a retinol serum that acts as an exfoliating agent that speeds up cell renewal and stimulates collagen production. These cleansing and reconstructive actions diminish the appearance of lines
and wrinkles.

The challenges to a successful vitamin A based skin care product are threefold:

1. Ensuring stability of the form of vitamin A used in the skin care product.
All forms of vitamin A are very sensitive to oxidation by air and without protection from air activity will be lost quickly, therefore a high quality packaging that prevents contact with air both on the shelf and in use should be chosen. Transderma uses an airless system that satisfies these criteria.

Certain antioxidants protect vitamin A from oxidation. One of the most efficient is d-alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), which we use in Transderma A. Apart from protecting the vitamin A, this antioxidant also gives all the known befits of vitamin E to the skin, as for example protection against photo induced skin damage (UV-light).

Finally, numerous cosmetic ingredients destabilize vitamin A, and testing of all formulation ingredients must be carried out. In particular, water, pigments (sunscreens) and acidic ingredients should be avoided. Transderma A has been tested carefully, and the number of ingredients has been kept to the bare essentials for optimal function.

2. Ensuring that the vitamin A in the skin product is actually absorbed into the skin.
The vitamin A must pass the outer, protective barrier of the skin in order to have any effect. Ingredients that slow down or prevent absorption of vitamin A should be avoided. Many cosmetic oils are absorbed slowly or not at all by the skin and if used as ingredients might trap the vitamin A on top of the skin.

3. Avoiding irritation (redness) to the skin without sacrificing efficiency.
The conversion rate of the vitamin A form used must be fast enough to ensure therapeutic efficiency and slow enough to avoid skin irritation.
In Transderma A we have achieved this optimal balance through testing and careful selection of ingredients. The use of squalane with its excellent moisturizing effect also greatly reduces skin irritation.

All the ingredients in Transderma A are “active”, i.e. water, emulsifiers, thickeners, etc., that actually serve no purpose for the skin, are not used in Transderma A Serum.
